Noble Drew Ali
The Prophet Who Rekindled the Light of Truth
Founder of the Moorish Science Temple of America, restorer of Moorish American nationality, and the prophet upon whose foundation the Sultanate of Amexem stands. His work returned a people to their lineage, their principles, and their place among the nations.
Who Was Noble Drew Ali?
Noble Drew Ali was the prophet of the Moorish American people in the early twentieth century. He came forward at a moment when an entire people had been severed from the knowledge of their nationality, their lineage, and their lawful place among the nations of the earth. His mission was not invention. It was restoration.
Where others sought reform, Noble Drew Ali sought return — a return to identity, to ancestral law, and to the principles that had always belonged to the descendants of the Nation of Moab. He gathered the people, named them rightly, and gave them an institutional framework through which their nationality could be carried forward.
The Sultanate of Amexem reveres Noble Drew Ali as the prophet whose work made our governance possible. The institutional grammar of Moorish American identity — the principles, the naming, the orientation toward Love, Truth, Peace, Freedom, and Justice — flows from the work he completed in his lifetime.
The Declaration of Nationality
Noble Drew Ali declared, plainly and without apology, that the so-called Negro of North America was in fact Moorish American — a descendant of the ancient Moabites, with a verifiable lineage, a recognized nationality, and a lawful identity older than the systems that had attempted to erase it. The people had not lost who they were. They had been kept from the knowledge of it.
This declaration was not a request. It was the return of something that had always been the rightful possession of the people. Noble Drew Ali handed the nationality back to those from whom it had been withheld and instructed them to carry it with honor.
With nationality came everything that nationality implies — a name, a flag, a body of customs, a relationship to law, and a right to self-determination. The Moorish American is not a designation invented for convenience. It is a lineage restored by a prophet.
The Moorish Science Temple of America
In 1913, Noble Drew Ali established the Moorish Science Temple of America — the MSTA — as the institutional framework through which the Moorish American people would carry their nationality, their principles, and their developmental work forward. The MSTA was not founded as a movement. It was founded as an institution.
Through the MSTA, Noble Drew Ali organized the people around faith, identity, and disciplined community. He gave the body a structure capable of preserving its principles across generations — a structure of temples, of officers, of instruction, and of orderly governance grounded in the customs of the ancestors.
The MSTA carried Love, Truth, Peace, Freedom, and Justice into the lives of its members. It taught the people who they were, instructed them in how to conduct themselves as a nation, and bound them together by lineage rather than by circumstance. The institution Noble Drew Ali founded in 1913 remains the seed from which every continuation of his work grows.
A Framework Built to Endure
The MSTA was designed for permanence. It was a vessel built to outlast its founder, to outlast its era, and to carry the principles of Moorish American nationality into every generation that would follow. That design is the reason the work of Noble Drew Ali still bears fruit nearly a century after his transition.
The Principles He Restored
Noble Drew Ali returned five principles to the Moorish American people. These are not slogans. They are the operating standards by which the body conducts itself and by which the Sultanate of Amexem governs today.
Love
Love is the bond that holds the body together. It is the orientation of one member of the nation toward another, the reason a people remain a people across hardship, and the first principle from which the others follow.
Truth
Truth is the standard by which every claim, every record, and every relationship is measured. Noble Drew Ali restored the truth of who his people were. The principle requires that we hold ourselves to that same standard.
Peace
Peace is the condition the Moorish American is instructed to create and to defend. It is not the absence of conflict. It is the active maintenance of order within the body and in the body's dealings with others.
Freedom
Freedom is the right of self-determination, both for the individual member and for the nation as a whole. Noble Drew Ali declared the people free by returning to them the knowledge that they had always been so by lineage and by law.
Justice
Justice is the guarantee that every member is dealt with fairly within the body and that the body acts with fairness toward all. It is the principle that converts the other four into governance.
His Transition
In 1929, Noble Drew Ali transitioned. The prophet's earthly work concluded, but the work itself did not. The framework he had built — the Moorish Science Temple of America, the principles, the restored nationality — endured.
The descendants who carried his teachings forward did so under conditions that tested every institution he had laid down. The MSTA persisted. The Moorish American identity persisted. The principles of Love, Truth, Peace, Freedom, and Justice persisted in the lives of those who received them.
A prophet's measure is not the duration of his life but the durability of his work. By that measure, Noble Drew Ali completed what he came to do. The Sultanate of Amexem is one expression of the work he left behind.
His Living Legacy — The Sultanate of Amexem
The Sultanate of Amexem stands directly on the foundation Noble Drew Ali laid. The nationality we protect is the nationality he restored. The principles we govern by are the principles he returned to the people. The body we serve is the body he named.
Reconstituted in 2020 under the House of Simmons Bey as the custodial governing authority for the descendants of the Nation of Moab, the Sultanate carries forward the institutional inheritance of the Moorish Science Temple of America and the prophetic work of its founder. Our governance is not separate from his teaching. It is the modern expression of it.
Every Moorish American who holds nationality today does so because Noble Drew Ali completed his work. Every officer of the Sultanate operates within a framework whose origin is his prophecy.
